Chumphon Marine Park
Koh Chumphon marine park is located in Gulf of Thailand some 500 km /310 miles/ Southwest of Bangkok. It was announced as National Park in Thailand in 1999. The total area of the park is 320 square kilometers /125 square miles/ including about 40 limestone and picturesque islands. The main islands forming the archipelago are: Koh NgamYai, Koh Ngam Noi , Koh Kalok , Koh Thalu , Koh Lak Ngam, Koh Mattra, Koh Maphrao, Ko Lawa, Ko Rang Ka Chiu, Ko Khram and many more. The form of the terrain varies very much – from steep cliffs to plains and lowlands, caves and hills. The prevailing fauna is mangrove forest, rainforest and beach forest.
Koh Chumphon marine park is very popular destination for diving and snorkeling in Thailand. Currents in the area are calm and moderate, so the site is even suitable enough for beginner divers. The diving season is from April to October. The visibility varies from 3m /10 feet/ to 20m /66 feet/ but on average it is rather good. You can find great diversity of marine life in the area of Koh Chumphon park like water monitor, bengal monitor, reticulated python, siamese hawksbill turtle, green turtle, sea snake, flying fox, dolphin, sea cow and even whale sharks. In addition there is endless variety of corals. In Koh Chumphon marine park there is a good selection of accommodations at reasonable prices, so it is not a problem for longer vacation.
The entry fees for the park are 200 Baht /5 US dollars/ per adult person, 100 Baht /2.5 US dollars/ per children and 30 Baht /0.8 US cents/ for a car.
