Sirinat Marine Park
Sirinat marine park became the 31st National Park of Thailand and it was named in commemoration of the 60th birthday of Her Majesty, Queen Sirikit. The park is located on the northern part of Phuket, some 800km /500 miles/ away from Bangkok in the water of the Andaman sea. Phuket town is some 35 km /22 miles/ South of the park. The total area covered by Sirinat marine park. Sirinat National Park encompasses 22 square km /9 square miles/ of coastal land and 70 square km /27 square miles/ of sea.
Coral reefs are located about 1 km /0.6 miles/ offshore in depths of 4 to 7 metres /13 to 23 feet/. Some people say that the coral reefs in Sirinat marine park are the most pristine found in Phuket province. The species that could be spotted there include plate corals, soft corals, sea fans, tree corals, sea anemones, sea turtles, monitor lizards, mangrove snake, shrimps, shellfish, crabs, mudskippers, mullet, groupers and many more.
