Chiang Dao Caves

Chiang Dao Cave complex is located in Northern Thailand and about 72 km /45 miles/ North of Chiang Mai city. It is thought to be the largest cave complex in Northern Thailand. Some of the caves like Tham Phra Nawn and Tham Seua Dao have electric lamps but in the others you have to bring your own lights. You can hire a guide for 20 Baht /60 Us cents/ per cavern.

Very long ago it was thought by locals that Chiang Dao caves were inhabited by hermits. In addition local people believe in ancient Thai legend stating that Tham Chiang Dao Caves were once The caves of the seven wonders. 1 – a stream flowing from the pedestal of 2 - a gold Buddha, 3 - a storehouse of divine textiles, 4 - a mystical lake, 5 - a city of nagas, 6 - a sacred immortal elephant and 7 - the hermits own tomb. These magic wonders are hidden somewhere very deep in the caves and cannot be found. Also the belief says that if somebody removes a piece of rock, they will never escape the cave. So, be careful.
