Doi Inthanon National Park
Doi Inthanon national park was announced as national park of Thailand in 1954. The name Doi Inthanon comes from the name of the Doi Inthanon Mountain which is included in the park. In addition Doi Inthanon is the highest mountain in Thailand with Doi Inthanon peak 2565 metres /8500 feet/. The park is also often called The Roof of Thailand.
Doi Inthanon national park is located in Chiang Mai province and covers an area of 480 square kilometers /190 square miles/. One very important feature of the park is that it plays major role for Thailands geography, nature, wildlife and even economics. Ping river takes its source from the mountain and flows into the Bhumidol dam which is a major source for generating electrical power in Chiang Mai province. The flora of the Doi Inthanon national park includes moist evergreen forest and pine forest. The animals that can be found there include tigers, deer, wild boars, Siamese hares, gibbons, serpent, red jungle fowls. And because of the varying altitude of the park and different climate conditions the park hosts more than 360 bird species according to last research. So it is one of the best places for birdwatching tourism in Thailand. For more information:
