Erawan National Park
Erawan national park encompasses about 550 square kilometers /215 square miles/ in the province of Kanchanaburi. The park was established in 1975 and is the 12th national park in Thailand. The terrain is mainly mountainous and valley-like. The eastern part of the Erawan national park rise up to 1000 meters /3000 feet/ and in some places there are sheer cliffs formed down to the very bottom of the dip. The park is more than 80 percent covered by deciduous forest, bamboo forest and evergreen forest. The animal life that can be seen in Erawan national park include Sambar deer, wild boar, red flying squirrel, siamese hare, king cobra and many more. If you are lucky enough you can see the mighty Indian elephant or a striped tiger. Fish species, crabs and insect can be found everywhere around the tens of steams running through the park’s jungle.
One of the most interesting attraction of the Erawan national park is the marvelous 7-level Erawan waterfall /Namtok Erawan/ It is thought to be one of Thailand’s loveliest multilevel cascades. With not much effort you can get to the top seventh level of the waterfall to get the supreme delight of the falling emerald-green waters. There are also several interesting caves that worth a visit.
