Mekong River

Mekong river is also known as Mae Nam Khlong or Mother of all rivers. It flows some 4000 km /2500 miles/ from its source in the Tibetan Himalayas through China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. Mekong river is the 13th-longest in the world and the 10th-largest by volume. Mekong river is one of the most important rivers in Southeast Asia as more than 60 million people depend on it for food, water, transport and many other aspects of their daily lives.

Also the area around the Mekong river is home to large number of rice cultivation fields. One of the interesting places of interest for sightseeing is the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge connecting Vientiane in Laos with Nong Khai with length of 1170 metres. On January 9, 2007 a second Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge was opened with length of 1600 metres /1 mile/. If you look for adventures or just a river trip many voyages and river tours are organized by hotels or local agencies.
